“AndIhaveonlyone,”mutteredCornelius.

“Toloveyou,Rosa.”
Rosashookherhead,afterwhichfollowedapause.
“Well,”—Corneliusatlastbrokethesilence,—“well,Rosa,everythingchangesintherealmofnature;theflowersofspringaresucceededbyotherflowers;andthebees,whichsotenderlycaressedthevioletsandthewall-flowers,willflutterwithjustasmuchloveaboutthehoney-suckles,therose,thejessamine,andthecarnation.”
