           Theservant,havingbeenleftwithoutwages,firstlivedonhislittlesavings,andthenonhismaster’spigeons.

           Seeingthis,thepigeonsemigratedfromtheroofofIsaacBoxteltothatofCorneliusvanBaerle.

           Thenursewasakind-heartedwoman,whocouldnotlivewithoutsomethingtolove.Sheconceivedanaffectionforthepigeonswhichhadthrownthemselvesonherhospitality;andwhenBoxtel’sservantreclaimedthemwithculinaryintentions,havingeatenthefirstfifteenalready,andnowwishingtoeattheotherfifteen,sheofferedtobuythemfromhimforaconsiderationofsixstiversperhead.

           Thisbeingjustdoubletheirvalue,themanwasverygladtoclosethebargain,andthenursefoundherselfinundisputedpossessionofthepigeonsofhermaster’senviousneighbour.

           Inthecourseoftheirwanderings,thesepigeonswithothersvisitedtheHague,Loewestein,andRotterdam,seekingvariety,doubtless,intheflavouroftheirwheatorhempseed.

           Chance,orratherGod,forwecanseethehandofGodineverything,hadwilledthatCorneliusvanBaerleshouldhappentohitupononeoftheseverypigeons.
