Asupplementaryclausewastackedtothesentence,totheeffectthat“theaforesaidCorneliusvanBaerleshouldbeledfromtheprisonoftheBuytenhoftothescaffoldintheyardofthesamename,wherethepublicexecutionerwouldcutoffhishead.”
Asthisdeliberationwasamostseriousaffair,itlastedafullhalf-hour,duringwhichtheprisonerwasremandedtohiscell.

Corneliuslistenedtothesentencewithanexpressionratherofsurprisethansadness.

“Indeed,Ihavenot,”hereplied.“OnlyIconfessthat,amongallthecausesofdeathagainstwhichacautiousmanmayguard,Ishouldneverhavesupposedthistobecomprised.
