           April21.GotareplyfromMerton,sayinghewasverybusy,andjustatpresentcouldn’tmanagepassesfortheItalianOpera,Haymarket,Savoy,orLyceum,butthebestthinggoingoninLondonwastheBrownBushes,attheTankTheatre,Islington,andenclosedseatsforfour;alsobillforwhisky.

           April23.Mr.andMrs.James(MissFullersthatwas)cametomeattea,andweleftdirectlyafterfortheTankTheatre.Wegota’busthattookustoKing’sCross,andthenchangedintoonethattookustothe“Angel.”Mr.Jameseachtimeinsistedonpayingforall,sayingthatIhadpaidfortheticketsandthatwasquiteenough.

           Wearrivedattheatre,where,curiouslyenough,allour’bus-loadexceptanoldwomanwithabasketseemedtobegoingin.Iwalkedaheadandpresentedthetickets.Themanlookedatthem,andcalledout:“Mr.Willowly!doyouknowanythingaboutthese?”holdingupmytickets.
