           Theonlyoneamongthem,whoseoppositionoffeelingcouldexciteanyseriousanxietywasLadyRussell.AnneknewthatLadyRussellmustbesufferingsomepaininunderstandingandrelinquishingMrElliot,andbemakingsomestrugglestobecometrulyacquaintedwith,anddojusticetoCaptainWentworth.ThishoweverwaswhatLadyRussellhadnowtodo.Shemustlearntofeelthatshehadbeenmistakenwithregardtoboth;thatshehadbeenunfairlyinfluencedbyappearancesineach;thatbecauseCaptainWentworth’smannershadnotsuitedherownideas,shehadbeentooquickinsuspectingthemtoindicateacharacterofdangerousimpetuosity;andthatbecauseMrElliot’smannershadpreciselypleasedherintheirproprietyandcorrectness,theirgeneralpolitenessandsuavity,shehadbeentooquickinreceivingthemasthecertainresultofthemostcorrectopinionsandwell-regulatedmind.TherewasnothinglessforLadyRusselltodo,thantoadmitthatshehadbeenprettycompletelywrong,andtotakeupanewsetofopinionsandofhopes.
