           JodevotedherselftoBethdayandnight,notahardtask,forBethwasverypatient,andboreherpainuncomplaininglyaslongasshecouldcontrolherself.Buttherecameatimewhenduringthefeverfitsshebegantotalkinahoarse,brokenvoice,toplayonthecoverletasifonherbelovedlittlepiano,andtrytosingwithathroatsoswollenthattherewasnomusicleft,atimewhenshedidnotknowthefamiliarfacesaroundher,butaddressedthembywrongnames,andcalledimploringlyforhermother.ThenJogrewfrightened,Megbeggedtobeallowedtowritethetruth,andevenHannahsaidshe‘wouldthinkofit,thoughtherewasnodangeryet’.AletterfromWashingtonaddedtotheirtrouble,forMr.Marchhadhadarelapse,andcouldnotthinkofcominghomeforalongwhile.
