Jocaughtabadcoldthroughneglecttocovertheshornheadenough,andwasorderedtostayathometillshewasbetter,forAuntMarchdidn’tliketohearpeoplereadwithcoldsintheirheads.Jolikedthis,andafteranenergeticrummagefromgarrettocellar,subsidedonthesofatonursehercoldwitharsenicumandbooks.Amyfoundthathouseworkandartdidnotgowelltogether,andreturnedtohermudpies.Megwentdailytoherpupils,andsewed,orthoughtshedid,athome,butmuchtimewasspentinwritinglongletterstohermother,orreadingtheWashingtondispatchesoverandover.Bethkepton,withonlyslightrelapsesintoidlenessorgrieving.
Allthelittledutieswerefaithfullydoneeachday,andmanyofhersisters’also,fortheywereforgetful,andthehouseseemedlikeaclockwhosependulumwasgonea-visiting.
