Pippiwoundandwoundandseemedtoforgeteverythingelse. Butsuddenlysherememberedsomething. "Oh,mygoodness,youmusthaveyourbirthdaypresentstoo!"shesaid.
"Butitisn’tourbirthday,"saidTommyandAnnika.
Pippistaredattheminamazement. "No,butit’smybirthday,isn’tit? AndsoIcangivebirthdaypresentstoo,can’tI? Ordoesitsayinyourschoolbooksthatsuchathingcan’tbedone? Isitsomethingtodowiththatoldpluttifikationthatmakesitimpossible?"
"Oh,ofcourseit’spossible,"saidTommy."Itjustisn’tcustomary. Butformypart,I’dbeverygladtohaveapresent."

Pippiranintotheparlorandbroughtbacktwopackagesfromthechest. WhenTommyopenedhishefoundalittleivoryflute, andinAnnika’spackagewasalovelybroochshapedlikeabutterfly. Thewingsofthebutterflyweresetwithblueandredandgreenstones.
Whentheyhadallhadtheirbirthdaypresentsitwastimetositdownatthetable, wheretherewereallsortsofcakesandbuns. Thecakeswereratherpeculiarinshape,butPippideclaredtheywerejustthekindofcakestheyhadinChina.
