Thenhewroteonthenextcard:

"Okay,butthehorsemusthaveacardtoo,"saidPippidecidedly, "evenifhecan’tsitatthetable."
SoTommy,atPippi’sdictation,wrote:

Pippiheldthecardunderthehorse’snoseandsaid, "Readthisandseewhatyouthinkofit."
Asthehorsehadnoobjectiontomake,TommyofferedPippihisarm,andtheywalkedtothetable. Mr.NilssonshowednointentionofofferinghisarmtoAnnika, soshetookafirmholdofhimandliftedhimuptothetable. Buthedidn’twanttositonachair;heinsistedonsittingrightonthetable.
