Hewaitedforittoreturn,butinplaceofthewolfamanwalkedbackaroundthefire.Hewasleaningonatallstick.

Hestrodeawayfromthefirelight,towardthetrees,andShadowfollowedhim.Asheapproachedthetreestheshapesthathungfromthemresolved:legsandeyesandtonguesandheads.Shadowshookhishead:therewassomethingaboutseeingabullhangingbyitsneckfromatreethatwasdarklysad,andatthesametimesurrealenoughalmosttobefunny.Shadowpassedahangingstag,awolfhound,abrownbear,andachestnuthorsewithawhitemane,littlebiggerthanapony.
