           Everynightwepassedtowns,someofthemawayuponblackhillsides,nothingbutjustashinybedoflights;notahousecouldyousee.ThefifthnightwepassedSt.Louis,anditwaslikethewholeworldlitup.InSt.PetersburgtheyusedtosaytherewastwentyorthirtythousandpeopleinSt.Louis,butIneverbelievedittillIseethatwonderfulspreadoflightsattwoo’clockthatstillnight.Therewarn’tasoundthere;everybodywasasleep.
