           WELL,alldayhimandthekingwashardatit,riggingupastageandacurtainandarowofcandlesforfootlights;andthatnightthehousewasjamfullofmeninnotime.Whentheplacecouldn’tholdnomore,thedukehequittendingdoorandwentaroundthebackwayandcomeontothestageandstoodupbeforethecurtainandmadealittlespeech,andpraisedupthistragedy,andsaiditwasthemostthrillingestonethateverwas;andsohewentona-braggingaboutthetragedy,andaboutEdmundKeantheElder,whichwastoplaythemainprincipalpartinit;andatlastwhenhe’dgoteverybody’sexpectationsuphighenough,herolledupthecurtain,andthenextminutethekingcomea-prancingoutonallfours,naked;andhewaspaintedallover,ring-streaked-and-striped,allsortsofcolors,assplendidasarainbow.Andbutnevermindtherestofhisoutfit;itwasjustwild,butitwasawfulfunny.Thepeoplemostkilledthemselveslaughing;andwhenthekinggotdonecaperingandcaperedoffbehindthescenes,theyroaredandclappedandstormedandhaw-hawedtillhecomebackanddoneitoveragain,andafterthattheymadehimdoitanothertime.Well,itwouldmakeacowlaughtoseetheshinesthatoldidiotcut.
