However,IworeoutayearandthreemonthsmorebeforeIeversawanymoreofthesavages,andthenIfoundthemagain,asIshallsoonobserve. Itistruetheymighthavebeenthereonceortwice,buteithertheymadenostay,oratleastIdidnothearthem; butinthemonthofMay,asnearasIcouldcalculate,andinmyfourandtwentiethyear,Ihadaverystrangeencounterwiththem;ofwhichinitsplace.
Theperturbationofmymind,duringthisfifteenorsixteenmonths’interval,wasverygreat. Isleptunquiet,dreamedalwaysfrightfuldreams,andoftenstartedoutofmysleepinthenight. Inthedaygreattroublesoverwhelmedmymind,andinthenightIdeamedoftenofkillingthesavages,andofthereasonswhyImightjustifythedoingofit. But,towaiveallthisforawhile,itwasthemiddleofMay,onthesixteenthday,Ithink,aswellasmypoorwoodencalendarwouldreckon,forImarkedalluponthepoststill;Isay,itwasthesixteenthofMaythatitblewaverygreatstormofwindallday,withagreatdealoflightningandthunder,andaveryfoulnightitwasafterit.
