However,asmyfirstcropofcornwasbutsmall,Ihadnogreatdifficultytocutitdown; inshort,Ireapeditmyway,forIcutnothingoffbuttheears,andcarrieditawayinagreatbasketwhichIhadmade,andsorubbeditoutwithmyhands; andattheendofallmyharvesting,IfoundthatoutofmyhalfpeckofseedIhadneartwobushelsofrice,andabovetwobushelsandahalfofbarley,thatistosay,bymyguess,forIhadnomeasureatthattime.
However,thiswasagreatencouragementtome,andIforesawthat,intime,itwouldpleaseGodtosupplymewithbread. AndyethereIwasperplexedagain,forIneitherknewhowtogrindormakemealofmycorn,orindeedhowtocleanitandpartit; nor,ifmadeintomeal,howtomakebreadofit,andifhowtomakeit,yetIknewnothowtobakeit.
