Thewomannowcalledtothemthatsupperwasready,sotheygatheredaroundthetableandDorothyatesomedeliciousporridgeandadishofscrambledeggsandaplateofnicewhitebread,andenjoyedhermeal. TheScarecrowandtheTinWoodmanatenothingatall.Totoatealittleofeverything,andwasgladtogetagoodsupperagain.
ThewomannowgaveDorothyabedtosleepin,andTotolaydownbesideher,whiletheLionguardedthedoorofherroomsoshemightnotbedisturbed. TheScarecrowandtheTinWoodmanstoodupinacornerandkeptquietallnight,althoughofcoursetheycouldnotsleep.
Thenextmorning,assoonasthesunwasup,theystartedontheirway,andsoonsawabeautifulgreenglowintheskyjustbeforethem.

Astheywalkedon,thegreenglowbecamebrighterandbrighter,anditseemedthatatlasttheywerenearingtheendoftheirtravels. YetitwasafternoonbeforetheycametothegreatwallthatsurroundedtheCity. Itwashighandthickandofabrightgreencolor.
