           "Hedidn’tsayanythingforaminute; thenhesaidverylowthatyoucouldn’talwaysget‘emfortheasking." 

           Therewasabriefsilence. MissPolly’seyeshadturnedagaintothewindow. Hercheekswerestillunnaturallypink. 

           Pollyannasighed. 

           "Hewantsone,anyhow,Iknow,andIwishhecouldhaveone." 

           "Why,Pollyanna,HOWdoyouknow?" 

           "Because,afterwards,onanotherday,hesaidsomethingelse. Hesaidthatlow,too,butIheardhim. Hesaidthathe’dgivealltheworldifhedidhaveonewoman’shandandheart. Why,AuntPolly,what’sthematter?" AuntPollyhadrisenhurriedlyandgonetothewindow.
