ButevenwiththeEaglestheywerestilloutnumbered.InthatlasthourBeornhimselfhadappeared-nooneknewhoworfromwhere.Hecamealone,andinbear’sshape;andheseemedtohavegrownalmosttogiant-sizeinhiswrath.Theroarofhisvoicewaslikedrumsandguns;andhetossedwolvesandgoblinsfromhispathlikestrawsandfeathers.Hefellupontheirrear,andbrokelikeaclapofthunderthroughthering.Thedwarvesweremakingastandstillabouttheirlordsuponalowroundedhill.ThenBeornstoopedandliftedThorin,whohadfallenpiercedwithspears,andborehimoutofthefray.Swiftlyhereturnedandhiswrathwasredoubled,sothatnothingcouldwithstandhim,andnoweaponseemedtobiteuponhim.Hescatteredthebodyguard,andpulleddownBolghimselfandcrushedhim.ThendismayfellontheGoblinsandtheyfledinalldirections.
