Therewastheusualdimgreylightoftheforest-dayabouthimwhenhecametohissenses.Thespiderlaydeadbesidehim,andhissword-bladewasstainedblack.Somehowthekillingofthegiantspider,allalonebyhimselfinthedarkwithoutthehelpofthewizardorthedwarvesorofanyoneelse,madeagreatdifferencetoMr.Baggins.Hefeltadifferentperson,andmuchfiercerandbolderinspiteofanemptystomach,ashewipedhisswordonthegrassandputitbackintoitssheath.
