           "Why,children,"saidMrs.Banks,noticingthemsuddenly,"whatareyoudoingthere?Thisisyournewnurse,MaryPoppins.Jane,Michael,sayhowdoyoudo!Andthese"shewavedherhandatthebabiesintheircots—"aretheTwins."

           MaryPoppinsregardedthemsteadily,lookingfromonetotheotherasthoughsheweremakinguphermindwhethershelikedthemornot.

           "Willwedo?"saidMichael.

           "Michael,don’tbenaughty,"saidhisMother.

           MaryPoppinscontinuedtoregardthefourchildrensearchingly.Then,withalong,loudsniffthatseemedtoindicatethatshehadmadeuphermind,shesaid:

           "Perhapssheis,"saidMr.Banks,puttinghisnoseroundthecornerofthenewspaperforamomentandthenwithdrawingitveryquickly.

           WhentheirMotherhadgone,JaneandMichaeledgedtowardsMaryPoppins,whostood,stillELSapost,withherhandsfoldedinfrontofher.

           "Howdidyoucome?"Janeasked."Itlookedjustasifthewindblewyouhere."

           "Itdid,"saidMaryPoppinsbriefly.
