           SoHarrysetoffintotheheartoftheforestwithMalfoyandFang. Theywalkedfornearlyhalfanhour,deeperanddeeperintotheforest,untilthepathbecamealmostimpossibletofollowbecausethetreesweresothick. Harrythoughtthebloodseemedtobegettingthicker. Thereweresplashesontherootsofatree,asthoughthepoorcreaturehadbeenthrashingaroundinpaincloseby. Harrycouldseeaclearingahead,throughthetangledbranchesofanancientoak. 

           "Look"hemurmured,holdingouthisarmtostopMalfoy. 

           Somethingbrightwhitewasgleamingontheground. Theyinchedcloser. 

           Itwastheunicornallright,anditwasdead. Harryhadneverseenanythingsobeautifulandsad. Itslong,slenderlegswerestuckoutatoddangleswhereithadfallenanditsmanewasspreadpearly-whiteonthedarkleaves. 

           Harryhadtakenonesteptowarditwhenaslitheringsoundmadehimfreezewherehestood. Abushontheedgeoftheclearingquivered...Then,outoftheshadows,ahoodedfigurecamecrawlingacrossthegroundlikesomestalkingbeast. Harry,Malfoy,andFangstoodtransfixed. Thecloakedfigurereachedtheunicorn,lowereditsheadoverthewoundintheanimal’sside,andbegantodrinkitsblood. 

           "AAAAAAAAAARGH!" 

           MalfoyletoutaterriblescreamandboltedsodidFang. ThehoodedfigureraiseditsheadandlookedrightatHarryunicornbloodwasdribblingdownitsfront. ItgottoitsfeetandcameswiftlytowardHarryhecouldn’tmoveforfear. 

           Thenapainlikehe’dneverfeltbeforepiercedhishead;itwasasthoughhisscarwereonfire.
