TheonlythingHarrylikedabouthisownappearancewasaverythinscaronhisforehead thatwasshapedlikeaboltoflightning. Hehaditaslongashecouldremember, andthefirstquestionhecouldeverrememberaskinghisAuntPetuniawas howhehadgottenit.
"Inthecarcrashwhenyourparentsdied,"shehadsaid. "Anddon’taskquestions."

UncleVernonenteredthekitchen asHarrywasturningoverthebacon.

Aboutonceaweek,UncleVernonlookedoverthetopofhisnewspaper andshoutedthatHarryneededahaircut. Harrymusthavehadmorehaircuts thantherestoftheboysinhisclassputtogether, butitmadenodifference,hishairsimplygrewthatway —allovertheplace.
