ThedaybeforeHarry’sfirstQuidditchmatchthethreeofthemwereoutinthefreezingcourtyardduringbreak,andshehadconjuredthemupabrightbluefirethatcouldbecarriedaroundinajamjar. Theywerestandingwiththeirbackstoit,gettingwarm,whenSnapecrossedtheyard. HarrynoticedatoncethatSnapewaslimping. Harry,Ron,andHermionemovedclosertogethertoblockthefirefromview; theyweresureitwouldn’tbeallowed. Unfortunately,somethingabouttheirguiltyfacescaughtSnape’seye.Helimpedover. Hehadn’tseenthefire,butheseemedtobelookingforareasontotellthemoffanyway.
"What’sthatyou’vegotthere,Potter?"
ItwasQuidditchThroughtheAges.Harryshowedhim.
"Librarybooksarenottobetakenoutsidetheschool,"saidSnape. "Giveittome. FivepointsfromGryffindor."
"He’sjustmadethatruleup,"HarrymutteredangrilyasSnapelimpedaway. "Wonderwhat’swrongwithhisleg?"
"Dunno,butIhopeit’sreallyhurtinghim,"saidRonbitterly.
TheGryffindorcommonroomwasverynoisythatevening. Harry,Ron,andHermionesattogethernexttoawindow. HermionewascheckingHarryandRon’sCharmshomeworkforthem. Shewouldneverletthemcopy("Howwillyoulearn?"),butbyaskinghertoreaditthrough,theygottherightanswersanyway.
Harryfeltrestless. HewantedQuidditchThroughtheAgesback,totakehismindoffhisnervesabouttomorrow.
