           Boxer’ssplithoofwasalongtimeinhealing. Theyhadstartedtherebuildingofthewindmillthedayafterthevictorycelebrationswereended. Boxerrefusedtotakeevenadayoffwork,andmadeitapointofhonournottoletitbeseenthathewasinpain. IntheeveningshewouldadmitprivatelytoCloverthatthehooftroubledhimagreatdeal. Clovertreatedthehoofwithpoulticesofherbswhichshepreparedbychewingthem,andbothsheandBenjaminurgedBoxertoworklesshard. "Ahorse’slungsdonotlastforever,"shesaidtohim. ButBoxerwouldnotlisten. Hehad,hesaid,onlyonerealambitionlefttoseethewindmillwellunderwaybeforehereachedtheageforretirement.
