           Twomenwereleftinchargeoftheboatwhilewelandedamidtherocks,and,accompaniedbytheothertwo,CaptainLenGuy,theboatswain,HuntandIproceededtowardsthecentre,wherewefoundsomerisingground,fromwhencewecouldseethewholeextentoftheislet.Buttherewasnothingtobeseenonanyside,absolutelynothing.OncomingdownfromtheslighteminenceHuntwentoninfront,asithadbeenagreedthathewastobeourguide.Wefollowedhimtherefore,asheledustowardsthesouthernextremityoftheislet.Havingreachedthepoint,Huntlookedcarefullyonallsidesofhim,thenstoopedandshowedusapieceofhalfrottenwoodlyingamongthescatteredstones.

           “Iremember!”Iexclaimed;“ArthurPymspeaksofapieceofwoodwithtracesofcarvingonitwhichappearedtohavebelongedtothebowofaship.”

           “Amongthecarvingmybrotherfanciedhecouldtracethedesignofatortoise,”addedCaptainLenGuy.

           “Justso,”Ireplied,“butArthurPympronouncedthatresemblancedoubtful.Nomatter;thepieceofwoodisstillinthesameplacethatisindicatedinthenarrative,sowemayconcludethatsincetheJanecastanchorherenoothercrewhaseversetfootuponBennetIslet.Itfollowsthatweshouldonlylosetimeinlookingoutforanytokensofanotherlanding.WeshallknownothinguntilwereachTsalalIsland.”

           “Yes,TsalalIsland,”repliedthecaptain.

           Wethenretracedourstepsinthedirectionofthebay.
