           "Circumstantialevidenceisaverytrickything,"answeredHolmesthoughtfully. "Itmayseemtopointverystraighttoonething,butifyoushiftyourownpointofviewalittle,youmayfinditpointinginanequallyuncompromisingmannertosomethingentirelydifferent. Itmustbeconfessed,however,thatthecaselooksexceedinglygraveagainsttheyoungman,anditisverypossiblethatheisindeedtheculprit. Thereareseveralpeopleintheneighbourhood,however,andamongthemMissTurner,thedaughteroftheneighbouringlandowner,whobelieveinhisinnocence,andwhohaveretainedLestrade,whomyoumayrecollectinconnectionwith‘AStudyinScarlet’,toworkoutthecaseinhisinterest. Lestrade,beingratherpuzzled,hasreferredthecasetome,andhenceitisthattwomiddle-agedgentlemenareflyingwestwardatfiftymilesanhourinsteadofquietlydigestingtheirbreakfastsathome." 

           "Iamafraid,"saidI,"thatthefactsaresoobviousthatyouwillfindlittlecredittobegainedoutofthiscase." 

           "Thereisnothingmoredeceptivethananobviousfact,"heanswered,laughing. "Besides,wemaychancetohituponsomeotherobviousfactswhichmayhavebeenbynomeansobvioustoMr.Lestrade.
