           Myfriendsmiled. 

           "Holmes,thebusybody!" 

           Hissmilebroadened. 

           "Holmes,theScotlandYardJack-in-office!" 

           Holmeschuckledheartily. "Yourconversationismostentertaining,"saidhe."Whenyougooutclosethedoor,forthereisadecideddraught." 

           "IwillgowhenIhavesaidmysay.Don’tyoudaretomeddlewithmyaffairs. IknowthatMissStonerhasbeenhere.Itracedher!Iamadangerousmantofallfoulof!Seehere." Hesteppedswiftlyforward,seizedthepoker,andbentitintoacurvewithhishugebrownhands. 

           "Seethatyoukeepyourselfoutofmygrip,"hesnarled,andhurlingthetwistedpokerintothefireplacehestrodeoutoftheroom. 

           "Heseemsaveryamiableperson,"saidHolmes,laughing. "Iamnotquitesobulky,butifhehadremainedImighthaveshownhimthatmygripwasnotmuchmorefeeblethanhisown."
