Therewasnomaker’sname;but,asHolmeshadremarked,theinitials"H.B."werescrawledupononeside. Itwaspiercedinthebrimforahat-securer,buttheelasticwasmissing. Fortherest,itwascracked,exceedinglydusty,andspottedinseveralplaces,althoughthereseemedtohavebeensomeattempttohidethediscolouredpatchesbysmearingthemwithink.
