           Forthiswasmorelikebeingatthebackofthenorthwindthananythinghehadknownsinceheleftit.Sometimeshewouldhavehislittlebrother,sometimeshislittlesister,andsometimesbothoftheminthegrasswithhim,andthenhefeltjustlikeacatwithherfirstkittens,hesaid,onlyhecouldn’tpurr—allhecoulddowastosing.

           “Aboylikethat,”hesaid,“oughtnottobepushed.”

           Josephassentedheartily,smilingtohimselfattheideaofpushingDiamond.Afterdoingeverythingthatfelltohisshare,theboyhadawealthoftimeathisdisposal.Andahappy,sometimesamerrytimeitwas.Onlyfortwomonthsorso,heneithersawnorheardanythingofNorthWind.
