           “I’llgiveoldDiamondasurprise,”thoughttheboy;andcreepingupverysoftly,beforethehorseknew,hewasastrideofhisback.ThenitwasyoungDiamond’sturntohavemoreofasurprisethanhehadexpected;foraswithanearthquake,witharumblingandarockinghitherandthither,asprawlingoflegsandheavingasofmanybacks,youngDiamondfoundhimselfhoistedupintheair,withbothhandstwistedinthehorse’smane.ThenextinstantoldDiamondlashedoutwithbothhishindlegs,andgivingonecryofterroryoungDiamondfoundhimselflyingonhisneck,withhisarmsasfarrounditastheywouldgo.Butthenthehorsestoodasstillasastone,exceptthatheliftedhisheadgentlyuptolettheboyslipdowntohisback.
