           Butthiswasnotall.Yearsagotherehadbeeninhismother’smindagreatfancyaboutThomasinandhimself.Ithadnotpositivelyamountedtoadesire,butithadalwaysbeenafavouritedream.Thattheyshouldbemanandwifeingoodtime,ifthehappinessofneitherwereendangeredthereby,wasthefancyinquestion.Sothatwhatcoursesaveonewastherenowleftforanysonwhoreverencedhismother’smemoryasYeobrightdid?Itisanunfortunatefactthatanyparticularwhimofparents,whichmighthavebeendispersedbyhalfanhour’sconversationduringtheirlives,becomessublimatedbytheirdeathsintoafiatthemostabsolute,withsuchresultstoconscientiouschildrenasthoseparents,hadtheylived,wouldhavebeenthefirsttodecry.

           HadonlyYeobright’sownfuturebeeninvolvedhewouldhaveproposedtoThomasinwithareadyheart.Hehadnothingtolosebycarryingoutadeadmother’shope.
