           Thereddleman,stungwithsuspicionofwrongtoThomasin,wasarousedtostrategyinamoment.Heinstantlyleftthebushandcreptforwardonhishandsandknees.Whenhehadgotascloseashemightsafelyventurewithoutdiscoveryhefoundthat,owingtoacross-wind,theconversationofthetrystingpaircouldnotbeoverheard.

           Nearhim,asindiversplacesabouttheheath,wereareasstrewnwithlargeturves,whichlayedgewaysandupsidedownawaitingremovalbyTimothyFairway,previoustothewinterweather.Hetooktwooftheseashelay,anddraggedthemoverhimtillonecoveredhisheadandshoulders,theotherhisbackandlegs.Thereddlemanwouldnowhavebeenquiteinvisible,evenbydaylight;theturves,standinguponhimwiththeheatherupwards,lookedpreciselyasiftheyweregrowing.
