Benjaminwasaprodigiousbaby! HefurthertestifiedthathekepttheSteamboatHotelinWashingtonin1841,andsawmethereinthespringofthatyear. Hewasproceedingtostatewhathehadheardtwomensay,whenSenatorChaseraisedalegalobjection,towit,thatthesayingsofthirdpersons,beinghearsay,wasimproperevidence. TheobjectionwasoverruledbytheJustice,andShekelscontinued,statingthattwomencametohishotelandrepresentedtheyhadacoloredmanforsale; thattheyhadaninterviewwithBurch;thattheystatedtheycamefromGeorgia,buthedidnotrememberthecounty; thattheygaveafullhistoryoftheboy,sayinghewasabricklayer,andplayedontheviolin; thatBurchremarkedhewouldpurchaseiftheycouldagree; thattheywentoutandbroughttheboyin,andthatIwasthesameperson.
