Thepattingisperformedbystrikingthehandsontheknees,thenstrikingthehandstogether,thenstrikingtherightshoulderwithonehand,theleftwiththeother—allthewhilekeepingtimewiththefeet,andsinging,perhaps,thissong:

Thar,mydear,we’llliveforebber;
Denwe’llgotodeInginnation,
AllIwantindiscreation,
