Inafewminutes,asitseemed,thebudsofthemoreforwardoftheseplantshadlengthenedintoastemandwereevenputtingforthasecondwhorlofleaves,andalltheslopethathadseemedsorecentlyalifelessstretchoflitterwasnowdarkwiththestuntedolive-greenherbageofbristlingspikesthatswayedwiththevigouroftheirgrowing.
