Karlsson,Eric,Bridget,andChristophercreptintothesittingroomasquietly,cautiously,andquicklyastheycould.TheycrouchedandhidbehindthefurniturewhileKarlssondashedintothebeautifuloldcupboardwhereMommykeptherlinenandshutthedoorbehindhimasbesthecould.Nosoonerwashehiddenthanthethievescamepaddingin.Eric,whowaslyingbehindthecouchnexttothefireplace,peepedout.Tworeallyuglyanddreadful-lookingthieveswerestandinginthemiddleoftheroom.And(wouldyoubelieveit?)theywerenoneotherthanCoshandRuffy!
"Well,now,wheredotheykeepthecrownjewels,Iwonder,"saidCoshinalow,hoarsevoice.

Ruffypulledoutthenextdrawerandwhistledagain.Nodoubthehadnowfoundtheringandthebrooch.
