           "No,I’dratherbelikeyou,Daddy,"saidEric.

           MommyandBettyandBobbylaughed;Ericcouldnotunderstandwhy,buthefeltthattheywerelaughingatDaddy,andhedidnotlikeit.

           "Iwanttobelikeyou,Daddy,becauseyou’realwaysnice,"hesaid,lookingaffectionatelyathisfather.

           "Thankyou,son,"saidDaddy."Now,whataboutit,don’tyouwantsomecauliflowerafterall?"

           "No,I’dratherbedead,"saidEric.

           "Butit’sgoodforyou,"saidMommy.

           "Yes,isn’titqueer?"saidBobby."Isupposeyouthinktheyshouldbeputintoffeesandchewingguminstead!"

           "That’sthesensiblestthingyou’vesaidforalongtime,"saidEric.

           Afterdinnerhewenttohisroom.HewishedwithallhisheartthatKarlssonwouldcome.Soonhewouldbegoingaway,andhewantedtoseeasmuchofKarlssonaspossiblebeforethen.
