           ’AtduskTreebeardcamebacktothegate.Hewashummingandboomingtohimself,andseemedpleased.Hestoodandstretchedhisgreatarmsandlegsandbreatheddeep.Iaskedhimifhewastired.

           "Tired?"hesaid,"tired?Wellno,nottired,butstiff.IneedagooddraughtofEntwash.Wehaveworkedhard;wehavedonemorestone-crackingandearth-gnawingtodaythanwehavedoneinmanyalongyearbefore.Butitisnearlyfinished.Whennightfallsdonotlingernearthisgateorintheoldtunnel!Watermaycomethrough-anditwillbefoulwaterforawhile,untilallthefilthofSarumaniswashedaway.ThenIsencanruncleanagain."Hebegantopulldownabitmoreofthewalls,inaleisurelysortofway,justtoamusehimself.
