Thehobbitsturnedback.ThevoicesoftheEntswerestillrisingandfallingintheirconclave.Thesunhadnowrisenhighenoughtolookoverthehighhedge:itgleamedonthetopsofthebirchesandlitthenorthwardsideofthedinglewithacoolyellowlight.Theretheysawalittleglitteringfountain.Theywalkedalongtherimofthegreatbowlatthefeetoftheevergreens-itwaspleasanttofeelcoolgrassabouttheirtoesagain,andnottobeinahurry-andthentheyclimbeddowntothegushingwater.Theydrankalittle,aclean,cold,sharpdraught,andsatdownonamossystone,watchingthepatchesofsunonthegrassandtheshadowsofthesailingcloudspassingoverthefloorofthedingle.ThemurmuroftheEntswenton.Itseemedaverystrangeandremoteplace,outsidetheirworld,andfarfromeverythingthathadeverhappenedtothem.Agreatlongingcameoverthemforthefacesandvoicesoftheircompanions,especiallyforFrodoandSam,andforStrider.
