           Thomassuckedintwohugebreathsandleanedinonceagain.Itwastoodarktomakeoutclearly,butoddlightsflashedfromanunknownsource,revealingblursofsilverspikesandglisteningflesh.Wickedinstrument-tippedappendagesprotrudedfromitsbodylikearms:asawblade,asetofshears,longrodswhosepurposecouldonlybeguessed.

           Thecreaturewasahorrificmixofanimalandmachine,andseemedtorealizeitwasbeingobserved,seemedtoknowwhatlayinsidethewallsoftheGlade,seemedtowanttogetinsideandfeastonhumanflesh.Thomasfeltanicyterrorblossominhischest,expandlikeatumor,makingithardtobreathe.Evenwiththememorywipe,hefeltsurehe’dneverseensomethingsotrulyawful.
