           Thomasstopped,thinkingChuckhadtohavesaidsomethingwrong.Helookedup,lookedsidetoside,examinedthemassiveslabsofstoneastheuneasyfeelingblossomedintooutrightdread."Whatdoyoumean,theyclose?"

           "Justseeforyourselfinaminute.TheRunners’llbebacksoon;thenthosebigwallsaregoingtomoveuntilthegapsareclosed."

           "You’rejackedinthehead,"Thomasmuttered.Hecouldn’tseehowthemammothwallscouldpossiblybemobilefeltsosureofitherelaxed,thinkingChuckwasjustplayingatrickonhim.

           Theyreachedthehugesplitthatledoutsidetomorestonepathways.Thomasgaped,hismindemptyingofthoughtashesawitallfirsthand.

           "ThisiscalledtheEastDoor,"Chucksaid,asifproudlyrevealingapieceofarthe’dcreated.

           Thomasbarelyheardhim,shockedbyhowmuchbiggeritwasupclose.Atleasttwentyfeetacross,thebreakinthewallwentallthewaytothetop,farabove.Theedgesthatborderedthevastopeningweresmooth,exceptforoneodd,repeatingpatternonbothsides.OntheleftsideoftheEastDoor,deepholesseveralinchesindiameterandspacedafootapartwereboredintotherock,beginningnearthegroundandcontinuingallthewayup.

           OntherightsideoftheDoor,foot-longrodsjuttedoutfromthewalledge,alsoseveralinchesindiameter,inthesamepatternastheholesfacingthemontheotherside.Thepurposewasobvious.

           "Areyoukidding?"Thomasasked,thedreadslammingbackintohisgut.
