           Nearby,ahousewasbeingrepaired, andPippiranoverandgotalongboard. Shetooktheboardinonehand,rantothetree, graspedtheropeinherfreehand,andbracedherfeetagainstthetrunkofthetree. Quicklyandnimblysheclimbedupthetrunk, andthepeoplestoppedcryinginastonishment. Whenshereachedthetopofthetreesheplacedtheboardoverastoutbranchandthencarefullypusheditovertothewindowsill. Andtherelaytheboardlikeabridgebetweenthetopofthetreeandthewindow. 

           Thepeopledowninthesquarestoodabsolutelysilent.Theyweresotensetheycouldn’tsayaword. Pippisteppedoutontheboard. Shesmiledpleasantlyatthetwoboysinthegabledwindow.
