ThateveningLavenderwenttothebottomofthegardendeterminedtocatchanewt.Theyareswiftly-movinganimalsandnoteasytogetholdof.Shelayonthebankforalongtimewaitingpatientlyuntilshespottedawhopper.Then,usingherschoolhatasanet,sheswoopedandcaughtit.Shehadlinedherpencil-boxwithpond-weedreadytoreceivethecreature,butshediscoveredthatitwasnoteasytogetthenewtoutofthehatandintothepencil-box.Itwriggledandsquirmedlikequicksilverand,apartfromthat,theboxwasonlyjustlongenoughtotakeit.Whenshedidgetitinatlast,shehadtobecarefulnottotrapitstailinthelidwhenshesliditclosed.
