           Therewasavacantplaceatatablefurtheraway,butsomethinginthelittleman’sappearancesuggestedthathewouldbesufficientlyattentivetohisowncomforttochoosetheemptiesttable. WithiceathisheartWinstonfollowed. Itwasnouseunlesshecouldgetthegirlalone. Atthismomenttherewasatremendouscrash. Thelittlemanwassprawlingonallfours,histrayhadgoneflying,twostreamsofsoupandcoffeewereflowingacrossthefloor. HestartedtohisfeetwithamalignantglanceatWinston,whomheevidentlysuspectedofhavingtrippedhimup. Butitwasallright. Fivesecondslater,withathunderingheart,Winstonwassittingatthegirl’stable.
