SoIwasbroughtupbyAuntAnnieandUncleDickwiththeirdaughterMabel.AuntAnniewasmyfather’seldersister.
UncleDickdiedwhenIwasfifteen.Thatwas1950.WewentuptoTringReservoirtofish,asusualIwentoffwithmynetandstuff.WhenIgothungryandcamebacktowhereIlefthim,therewereaknotofpeople.Ithoughthe’dcaughtawhopper.Buthe’dhadastroke.Theygothimhome,butheneversaidanotherwordorproperlyrecognizedanyofusagain.
Thedayswespenttogether,nottogetherexactly,becauseIalwayswentoffcollectingandhe’dsitbyhisrods,thoughwealwayshaddinnertogetherandthejourneythereandhome,thosedays(aftertheonesI’mgoingtosayabout)aredefinitelythebestIhaveeverhad.
