Hequestionedthesculptorwithscientificminuteness; andstudiedwithalmostfranticintensitythebas-relief onwhichtheyouthhadfoundhimselfworking, chilledandcladonlyinhisnight-clothes,whenwakinghadstolenbewilderinglyoverhim. Myuncleblamedhisoldage,Wilcoxafterwardsaid, forhisslownessinrecognizingbothhieroglyphicsandpictorialdesign.
