Thenoise,astheyemergedfromthepassage,wassimplydeafening.Atlast,asthecheeringandhammeringslowlysubsided,avoicecouldbemadeoutsaying,"Well,Idonotproposetodetainyoumuchlonger"—(greatapplause)—"butbeforeIresumemyseat"—(renewedcheering)—"Ishouldliketosayonewordaboutourkindhost,Mr.Toad.WeallknowToad!"—(greatlaughter)—"GoodToad,modestToad,honestToad!"(shrieksofmerriment).
