Withanoiselikeanexplosion,somethingverylargeandpaleeruptedoutofthedarkwatersometwentyfeetaway;beforeHarrycouldseewhatitwas,ithadvanishedagainwithacrashingsplashthatmadegreat,deepripplesonthemirroredsurface.Harryleaptbackwardinshockandhitthewall;hisheartwasstillthunderingasheturnedtoDumbledore.
"Whatwasthat?"
"Something,Ithink,thatisreadytorespondshouldweattempttoseizetheHorcrux."
Harrylookedbackatthewater.Thesurfaceofthelakewasoncemoreshiningblackglass:therippleshadvanishedunnaturallyfast;Harry’sheart,however,wasstillpounding.
