Theblazingsilveroutlineofanarchhadappearedinthewalloncemore,andthistimeitdidnotfadeaway:theblood-spatteredrockwithinitsimplyvanished,leavinganopeningintowhatseemedtotaldarkness.
"Afterme,Ithink,"saidDumbledore,andhewalkedthroughthearchwaywithHarryonhisheels,lightinghisownwandhastilyashewent.
Aneeriesightmettheireyes:theywerestandingontheedgeofagreatblacklake,sovastthatHarrycouldnotmakeoutthedistantbanks,inacavernsohighthattheceilingtoowasoutofsight.Amistygreenishlightshonefarawayinwhatlookedlikethemiddleofthelake;itwasreflectedinthecompletelystillwaterbelow.Thegreenishglowandthelightfromthetwowandsweretheonlythingsthatbroketheotherwisevelvetyblackness,thoughtheirraysdidnotpenetrateasfarasHarrywouldhaveexpected.Thedarknesswassomehowdenserthannormaldarkness.
"Letuswalk,"saidDumbledorequietly."Beverycarefulnottostepintothewater.Stayclosetome."
Hesetoffaroundtheedgeofthelake,andHarryfollowedclosebehindhim.Theirfootstepsmadeechoing,slappingsoundsonthenarrowrimofrockthatsurroundedthewater.
