ProfessorsMarchbanksandToftystrolledamongthem,watchingastheyenteredtheprecisepositionsofthestarsandplanetstheywereobserving.Allwasquietexceptfortherustleofparchment,theoccasionalcreakofatelescopeasitwasadjustedonitsstand,andthescribblingofmanyquills.Halfanhourpassed,thenarhour;thelittlesquaresofreflectedgoldlightflickeringonthe:groundbelowstartedtovanishaslightsinthecastlewindowswereextinguished.
AsHarrycompletedtheconstellationOriononhischart,however,thefrontdoorsofthecastleopeneddirectlybelowtheparapetwherehewasstanding,sothatlightspilleddownthestonestepsalittlewayacrossthelawn.Harryglanceddownashemadeaslightadjustmenttothepositionofhistelescopeandsawfiveorsixelongatedshadowsmovingoverthebrightlylitgrassbeforethedoorsswungshutandthelawnbecameaseaofdarknessoncemore.
Harryputhiseyebacktohistelescopeandrefocusedit,nowexaminingVenus.Helookeddownathischarttoentertheplanetthere,butsomethingdistractedhim;pausingwithhisquillsuspendedovertheparchment,hesquinteddownintotheshadowygroundsandsawhalfadozenfigureswalkingoverthelawn.
