ChristmasspiritwasdefinitelythinonthegroundintheGryffindorcommonroomthatmorning.HermionehadshutCrookshanksinherdormitory,butwasfuriouswithRonfortryingtokickhim;RonwasstillfumingaboutCrookshanks’sfreshattempttoeatScabbers.HarrygaveuptryingtomakethemtalktoeachotheranddevotedhimselftoexaminingtheFirebolt,whichhehadbroughtdowntothecommonroomwithhim.ForsomereasonthisseemedtoannoyHermioneaswell;shedidn’tsayanything,butshekeptlookingdarklyatthebroomasthoughittoohadbeencriticizinghercat.
AtlunchtimetheywentdowntotheGreatHall,tofindthattheHousetableshadbeenmovedagainstthewallsagain,andthatasingletable,setfortwelve,stoodinthemiddleoftheroom.
